Larry Brandenburg is a retired Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detective with 40 years of law enforcement experience. He was the lead investigator on approximately 200 homicide investigations, including officer-involved shootings and the murders of police officers, and has testified hundreds of times in Los Angeles County and Kern County Superior Courts. He brings Titan National Consulting Group deep expertise in homicide, death, and complex criminal investigations.
During 34 years with LASD, Larry held assignments in custody, patrol, uniformed gang enforcement, gang investigations, an FBI gang task force, and the Homicide Bureau, where he spent more than 20 years investigating homicides, officer-involved shootings, and in-custody deaths. He assisted with investigations into the murders of law enforcement officers, including the 1993 murders of two Compton police officers, and in 2017 used familial DNA technology to help solve a high-profile 1977 cold-case murder. On the FBI task force, he investigated major drug-trafficking organizations, including the Grape Street Crips in Watts, work that led to numerous federal indictments, including that of the gang’s leader. After retiring from LASD, he investigated unsolved homicides for the California City Police Department for five years and reviewed and consulted on cold cases for the Arvin Police Department.
Larry has conducted complex investigations using wiretaps, RICO statutes, electronic surveillance, digital analysis of electronic devices, polygraph examinations, and undercover “Perkins” operations. He has used grand juries for investigations and indictments, handled extraditions within the United States and Mexico, and placed witnesses in the U.S. Marshals Witness Protection Program through the U.S. Attorney’s Office. His training includes homicide investigation at San Jose State University and the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation, and he holds an Advanced POST Certificate. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he is a longtime member of the California Homicide Investigators Association, where he served on the board of directors for 10 years, and has appeared on CBS News’ 48 Hours and NBC’s Dateline.
